The first step to becoming involved is knowing who represents you and/or your community. Click here to enter your location to find your local Legislator. 

What ways can you become involved with your Legislator?

• Invite them to your pharmacy or school of pharmacy for a visit to discuss issues.
• Get them involved in the world of pharmacy.
• Thank them for their support on an issue that affects pharmacy, for communicating with you, or for meeting with you. "Thank you’s” are especially appreciated during and just after a Legislative session.

How do you arrange a meeting with a Legislator?

For many, the idea of talking with elected officials seems like a daunting task. However, Texas State Representatives and Senators appreciate hearing from their constituents. With so many issues facing them during the short time of the legislative session, they rely on the voters back home to help them sort through the important concerns facing the state. That is why it is important for the pharmacy profession across the state to be involved.

What should you do after communicating with a Legislator?

Fill out TPA's Legislative Meeting Report - Fill out TPA’s Legislative Meeting Report. TPA wants to know if you met with a Legislator and what issue was discussed so that we can keep track of what is important to our members. Clicking the link below is a visit report that you can submit to us.  If you want it to be anonymous, feel free to leave your name off. 

Contacting the Media

It is important to organize some media attention whenever you invite a Legislator to your pharmacy, school or event.  Involving the media will add value for your Legislator and for you. To inform new stations or newspapers, a telephone call and/or letter can be useful tools in getting their attention.

TPA may need to call on members of the pharmacy profession urgently and this is the focus of the Legislative Alert Network that you may choose to be a part of in TPA. This would involve TPA contacting you for "Thank you” letters or e-mails or voicing support/opposition for a bill through phone calls or e-mails. Again, thanking our Legislators is a more important task than one may think. Remember the tips on contacting a Legislator and constructing "Thank you’s”.

Register to Vote
