On Thursday, September 6, the Texas Pharmacy Association’s three standing councils (Association Affairs, Financial Affairs, and Public Policy) met for the second day of our Leadership Retreat in Georgetown to discuss membership growth and member engagement, legislative priorities and advocacy initiatives, and non-dues revenue opportunities. Council members were appointed by President Mark Comfort based on those who volunteered to serve in July. The meeting began with a presentation by CEO Debbie Garza, who shared public opinion research commissioned by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) specific to Texas voters regarding the perception of the pharmacy profession as part of the broader health care landscape, their acceptance of pharmacist-provided services, and key message takeaways from the data. More than 50 members attended the council meetings, indicating that pharmacy professionals recognize that their voice is vital!

TPA members voted this past week to accept the bylaws amendments aimed at encouraging member engagement in volunteer opportunities for the Association. The amended bylaws (available online) allow all interested members the opportunity to attend, participate, and vote in future council meetings.
