Debbie Garza speaks to new University of Texas pharmacy students about the importance of belonging to TPA.
New students at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy learned about the Texas Pharmacy Association on Thursday when TPA President Mark Comfort and CEO Debbie Garza gave presentations at their orientation session. Comfort shared his personal story of why he got involved in TPA and the importance of being engaged. Garza presented a brief overview of what a professional association is, the history and structure of TPA, and how students can get involved in advocacy and educational efforts. “It was a privilege to speak to students at my alma mater and to let them know that their voice is vital to the pharmacy profession,” Garza said. “It’s important to help our new pharmacy students understand the benefits of belonging to TPA.”
On August 17, Past President Carole Hardin-Oliver gave a similar presentation about TPA to University of Houston students as part of their orientation. TPA looks forward to meeting with all first-year Texas pharmacy students during the coming months.
