The Texas Pharmacy Association and other state pharmacy groups have signed on to a letter initiated by Mary Staples of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) to the Texas Health and Human Services Vendor Drug Program (VDP) to strongly encourage the agency to open formulary access to the flu vaccine for patients ages 7 and older. The objective is to allow flu vaccines to be administered by a pharmacist and billed to the prescription benefit without going through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. VDP has not yet made a final determination on the matter, but said that as part of its ongoing efforts to improve services, the VDP staff has been reviewing statistics and historical information on the subject.
