The Texas Pharmacy Summit, comprising eight Texas pharmacy organizations, met the week of August 6 and discussed the progress on the Summit's legislative priorities in terms of acquiring possible bill sponsors as well as drafts from the Legislative Council, a nonpartisan legislative agency that assists legislators in drafting and analyzing proposed legislation.
Both professional and business issues are top priorities for the 2019 legislative session and include enhancing access to care through additional patient-care services that pharmacists can provide, and payment for these services; expansion of immunization authority by pharmacists; clarifying language around collaborative practice; Medicaid managed care and value-based purchasing; pharmacy benefits managers; and the role pharmacists can play in addressing the opioid epidemic.
