This week the Texas Pharmacy Association attended the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) quarterly Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) interagency meeting to provide an update. TSBP Executive Director Allison Benz shared statistics:
There are now 81,048 registered users, including approximately which represents approximately 50% of the licensees. It’s important to note that not all licensees are in settings where they prescribe or dispense which would require registering for the PMP.
There have been 5,395,002 searches in the first three quarters of the 2018 fiscal year, out of 29,407,866 controlled substances dispensed. The total number of searches in the 3rd Quarter jumped to nearly a million more then was seen in the 1st Quarter of the year.
Benz also shared TSBP's PMP budget requests for Fiscal Year 2020–2021, totaling about $5.1 million. The budget request will include funds for the addition of NarxCare to the PMP system, along with its integration, so that all prescribers and dispensers would have access to NarxCare. If you have not registered for the PMP, please take time to do so. To-date the Texas PMP system is connected to the PMP systems of 20 other states.
