Students at the University of Texas at Tyler’s Fisch College of Pharmacy learned about the Texas Pharmacy Association at the first general meeting for their newly established student organization. The university aimed to start TPA-ASP on its campus to include all students and serve as a unified voice for the pharmacy profession. Dr. Jessica Wooster hosted the first general meeting and gave a presentation highlighting the importance of having a voice in pharmacy advocacy and explaining how students can become involved.

“I am excited for TPA-ASP members to focus on advancing pharmacy at the state and national level," Wooster said. "We must promote legislation efforts that allow future pharmacists to practice at the top of their licenses, as they are trained during doctorate and post-graduate training to promote public health and patient-centered care.”

UT Tyler is the first pharmacy school to recognize TPA-ASP as a stand-alone student organization. While TPA-ASP is represented at other Texas colleges of pharmacy, it is under the umbrella of the APhA.
