Nearly 20 pharmacy industry leaders gathered June 27 in downtown Austin for the first meeting of the TPA Pharmacy Partners Council. Chief Executive Officer Debbie Garza formed the group this year to serve as a corporate advisory council and increase pharmacy thought-leadership in Texas. The Council provides a forum for corporate and association leaders to convene and foster robust dialogue that will broaden and strengthen shared priorities to further the pharmacy profession.

“Our goal is to work together to align strategic initiatives, resources and advocacy efforts to enable us to educate, empower and advance the practice of pharmacy in Texas,” Garza said.

The inaugural meeting began with a presentation outlining TPA’s focus and purpose of the Council. Discussion included the current pharmacy landscape, emerging trends, medication adherence, and legislative priorities. Attendees from AbbVie, Amgen, AstraZeneca, Cardinal, GlaxoSmithKline, McKesson, Pfizer, and Pharmacists Mutual contributed to the lively discussion along with chain pharmacy representatives from HEB, Walgreens, and NACDS.
“One of TPA’s core values is collaboration, and the meeting allowed for folks to engage, listen, and learn from each other as industry stakeholders and determine where their are opportunities to advance mutual interests and move the profession forward,” said TPA President-Elect Mark Comfort.
