Public Policy Council Meets to Prepare for Legislative Session

The Texas Pharmacy Association’s Public Policy Council, chaired by TPA Vice President Michael Muñiz, held a conference call December 19 to provide updates to council members. Debbie Garza, CEO, and Stephanie Chiarello, division director of public affairs, discussed with the council TPA’s legislative priorities for the upcoming Texas legislative session and provided preliminary results from the recent TPA Legislative Priorities Survey, which elicited responses from a wide range of Texas pharmacy professionals. Top issues among survey respondents were pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform, payment for services, and Medicaid reform. Chiarello provided an overview of expectations for the new legislature, noting that new leadership and a new temperament in the Texas House and Senate affords TPA the opportunity to build new relationships with lawmakers.
