Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick were sworn into office to begin new terms of office on Tuesday, January 15, during the 2019 Texas Inauguration. Predominantly a ceremonial event more than a policy focused event like the State of the State address scheduled next month, Abbott mentioned his top priorities are school finance and property tax reform. You can read more about it here and see photos from the event here.

TPA Public Affairs Director Stephanie Chiarello and TPA P4 student pharmacist Nereida Villa from Texas A&M-Kingsville visited the Capitol this week to speak with legislators about TPA’s legislative priorities. Although it is still very early in the bill-filing process for the 86th Texas Legislature, TPA is hitting the pavement to advocate for pharmacy and build relationships with lawmakers at every opportunity.

TPA is developing an advocacy toolkit that will be available to members soon to help them in their personal advocacy efforts with lawmakers.
