Late Tuesday afternoon, March 26, TPA Board Member and H-E-B Pharmacist Jay Bueche testified before the Texas House Committee on Insurance in support of HB 3441, which would increase access to pharmacists’ care by requiring reimbursement for pharmacist-provided services that are within a pharmacist’s scope of practice.
"I believe this bill provides a critical opportunity for pharmacists to positively impact the health care system and drive down costs," Bueche said, citing examples such as pharmacists being paid to perform CLIA-waived tests for blood glucose and cholesterol and to administer long-acting injectables.

Earlier in the day, TPA Vice President Michael Muñiz met with his representative, Eddie Lucio III, who chairs the committee. TPA registered its support for a number of bills concerning pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform that were also heard by the committee. Thanks to the dozens of TPA members who signed our online petition and provided personal accounts of how PBMs are affecting their practice. TPA compiled this information and presented it to House Insurance Committee members to encourage their support of PBM regulation.
