Texas Pharmacy Association Member Erin Graves and CEO Debbie Garza appeared before the Texas Senate Health and Human Services Committee Wednesday morning, March 27, to testify in support of SB 1056, which would clarify state law concerning collaborative practice.

“Although physicians and pharmacists have been permitted to enter into collaborative practice for 20 years, language passed in 2009 unintentionally made it unclear as to which pharmacists may be delegated activities by physicians,” Garza told the committee. “This bill rectifies the confusion and allows for more team-based care through collaborative practice by clarifying that a physician may delegate to any properly qualified and trained pharmacist the implementation and modification of a patient’s drug therapy under protocol.”

TPA thanks Senator Judith Zaffirini for sponsoring the bill.
