On Tuesday, Texas Pharmacy Association Board Member Nathan Pope visited the State Capitol with Stephanie Chiarello, TPA's division director, public affairs. Together they met with several legislators' offices to discuss bills heard in committee this week. In particular, they shared TPA’s concerns with proposed telepharmacy expansion, including HB 1706 by Rep. Tom Oliverson and HB 4226 by Rep. Bill Zedler. TPA dropped a card in opposition to these bills at the committee hearing on Wednesday.

So much of what happens at the Capitol is about bringing stakeholders together to agree on a direction for policy. An excellent example this week was HB 2088 by Rep. Jay Dean, relating to providing information regarding safe disposal of controlled substance prescription drugs. What began as a costly mandate for pharmacists turned into a simple notice requirement for patients. Together Pharmacy Advances!
