Texas State Board of Pharmacy logoThe Texas Pharmacy Association attended the Texas State Board of Pharmacy’s quarterly Board Business Meeting on Tuesday, May 7. Highlights from the meeting include the announcement that TSBP will no longer be providing paper copies of license certificates, the approval of amendments regarding technicians working remotely, and an increase in pharmacy licensure fees (increase by $47 for RPh and $130 for pharmacy, no technician increase) in order to offset increasing costs due to impending requirement of prescription monitoring program (PMP) integration and that TSBP provide patients upon request a copy of their PMP records and which healthcare providers accessed them.

Also discussed at the meeting were concerns about working conditions in community pharmacies. Anonymous writers sent letters to TSBP expressing concerns about how long shifts, limited to no breaks, and lack of adequate staff created a threat to patient safety. Audience members proposed that expansion of technician responsibilities may help offload some of the pressure placed on pharmacists. The Board will be looking into the findings of the previous task force on working conditions and technician practice as they formulate next steps for addressing this issue.
