Rep. Julie Johnson addresses the 2019 PharmPAC Breakfast

Sunday morning's annual PharmPAC Breakfast at the 2019 TPA Conference & Expo encouraged pharmacy professionals to elevate their influence in order to affect the political process. PharmPAC Chair Bruce Biundo introduced State Representative Julie Johnson (D-Carrollton), a member of the House Insurance Committee, which passed legislation concerning pharmacy’s top priorities, PBM reform and payment for services, during the 2019 session. Johnson spoke about her experiences as a first-term representative, noting that education issues dominated this year’s session. “I think health care will be the education of the next session,” she predicted. Johnson also addressed the importance of political involvement for pharmacists. “To be more relevant, your voice has to be louder,” she said. “You’re on the front lines of health care. Find your voice. Stay involved. The patients of Texas need you very much!”

PharmPAC is the political action committee of the Texas Pharmacy Association, focused on supporting TPA’s advocacy efforts and supporting pharmacy-friendly elected officials and candidates. Even small contributions to PharmPAC make a big difference. Imagine if every TPA member donated just one hour of their time by committing to a modest monthly contribution equal to approximately one hour’s wage ($60 for a pharmacist, $15 for technicians, $10 for students). Or, choose to donate any amount that fits your budget.
