The Texas Pharmacy Association's September 11 council meetings in Austin kicked off with a joint board and council meeting featuring a presentation by Ronna Hauser, Pharm.D., vice president of policy and regulatory affairs for the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). Hauser, originally a Texas pharmacist, discussed federal pharmacy priorities and progress on issues such as direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees and pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) legislation.
In particular, she explained that the chairman, ranking member, and an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the Senate Finance Committee members have asked the Trump Administrationto reform pharmacy DIR. The letter follows the committee's markup for the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act (PDPRA) of 2019. (View NCPA's analysis of the bill here.) However, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) has not yet pledged his support nor signed on to the letter.
