Public policy issues were a major topic at the Texas Pharmacy Association’s Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, February 11, in Austin. The Board engaged in thoughtful discussion and careful deliberation about pharmacy technician duties delegated under the supervision of a pharmacist. At the Texas State Board of Pharmacy’s May 2020 meeting, TSBP is scheduled to consider proposed rules to expand the pharmacist-to-technician ratio in community pharmacy, along with rules to allow technicians to receive new oral prescriptions, receive oral prescription transfers, and clarify prescriptions with prescribers. TPA’s Board of Directors will be finalizing its policy recommendations on these matters in the coming months.

The TPA Board also discussed advocating for PBM reform, expanded pharmacist services, reforms to DIR and similar fees, and reimbursement as it prepares for the 2021 Texas legislative session.

In addition to public policy, the Board received reports of strong financial health and impressive membership growth over the past two years and continued its discussion of ways to better serve members' needs.
