Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued guidance authorizing pharmacists to order and administer COVID-19 tests that the Food and Drug Administration has authorized. Texas has not yet provided specific guidance, nor is there specific policy regarding reimbursement, but the Texas Pharmacy Association is in communication with state officials for guidance.
Pharmacies that plan to offer coronavirus testing will need to have a CLIA Certificate of Waiver. If you don’t already have a waiver, complete the CMS form to obtain it. CMS has published information that describes how to obtain a waiver and addresses common questions. NCPA has prepared a video to help with completing the application form.
