Office of the Texas GovernorThe Texas Pharmacy Association this week sent a follow-up letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, asking him to issue an executive order clarifying that pharmacists possessing a CLIA Certificate of Waiver may order and administer CLIA-waived COVID-19 tests without a physician’s authorization. This was one of a number of recommendations—many of them since granted—listed in TPA's March 18 letter to the governor.

TPA assured the governor that pharmacists stand ready to help implement his plan to safely reopen Texas, including the ambitious task of doubling the amount COVID-19 testing in the coming weeks. Pharmacists are a trusted and logical choice to be part of the solution and help achieve the testing goal.

TPA CEO Debbie Garza has held numerous discussions with the governor's staff and remains in close contact with both the governor’s office and the Department of State Health Services to advance the interests of Texas pharmacists and their patients during this pandemic.
