Pharmacy Association members met in Austin this week for the fall
Leadership Retreat. The event began with meetings of TPA's three
standing councils on Wednesday, where members gathered to make their
voices heard and contribute to TPA's continued vitality. President Jay Bueche chaired the
Association Affairs Council meeting, which broke into small groups to
discuss opportunities for membership growth and engagement. The council
also reviewed the recent 2023 TPA Conference & Expo and discussed
criteria for a new annual award recognizing an outstanding TPA local
affiliate. Members of the Public Policy Council, chaired by Vice
President Jason Davis, reviewed the 2023 Texas legislative session,
discussed legislative and regulatory issues to be addressed during the
legislative interim, and shared what solutions they would implement if
they "had a magic wand." During lunch, Tom Banning, Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians,
spoke with council members about the perspectives and priorities of
primary care physicians and how pharmacists can work with physicians as
valued members of the health care team. Finally, Treasurer Lauren
Corrales led the Financial Affairs Council meeting, which examined the
Association's financial statements, considered revisions to the
Association’s financial policies, and discussed both dues and non-dues
revenue.
Members
of TPA's Independent Pharmacy Academy Board of Directors joined the TPA
Board on Thursday to discuss legislative and regulatory priorities. Thursday
afternoon, the TPA and Independent Pharmacy Academy (IPA) Boards of
Directors held a combined meeting to discuss legislative and regulatory
issues. The Independent Pharmacy Academy Board of Directors is meeting
this morning for an orientation and their annual planning meeting.
