Dozens of Texas Pharmacy Association members joined colleagues from other state pharmacy groups October 30 at the state capitol to receive interactive training in legislative advocacy. It was a historic day for all eight Texas pharmacy organizations to not only come together and support legislation, but to demonstrate commitment to help pass pharmacy’s legislative agenda. Pharmacists representing all practice areas learned tactics from legislative experts on how to effectively advocate for pharmacy’s priority issues. The aim of the event, coordinated by NACDS, was for pharmacists to gather together and prepare to serve as a unified voice for pharmacy in Texas.

After being briefed on the issues and learning how to address elected officials, participants put their newfound knowledge into practice by attending scheduled legislative meetings and speaking with legislators and their staffs. The primary issues discussed were enhanced services and collaborative practice, immunizations, Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) integration, electronic prescribing of controlled substances, PBM reform, and Medicaid/Rider 60.

Save the date for Pharmacy Day at the Capitol on February 26, 2019. Registration will open soon!
