President Raj Chhadua, and Jessica Frasier.
The Texas House of Representatives
passed legislation May 6 that will keep Texas children safe and
healthy by making permanent the expanded pharmacist and pharmacy
technician immunization authority granted under the federal PREP Act
during the pandemic.
House Bill 678
by Rep. Philip Cortez passed by a vote of 137-7 and will now likely be heard by the Senate Health and
Human Services Committee.
Physician groups and anti-vaccine advocates
oppose the bill, arguing childhood immunizations should be handled by
physicians, not pharmacists, despite the greater accessibility of pharmacists and statistics showing that most Texas
children do not have a medical home.
