The
88th Texas Legislature adjourned sine die on Monday, May 29, ending its
2023 regular session. The Texas Pharmacy Association was active through
the final hours, pushing to advance pharmacy priority legislation.
Unfortunately, immunization expansion legislation died Saturday when the
House and Senate failed to reconcile the differences between their
versions of House Bill 1105. This legislation would have kept pharmacies
as access points for routine childhood vaccines by making permanent in
Texas law the expanded childhood vaccination authority granted by the
federal PREP Act during the pandemic. Our other TPA priority legislation
of PBM reform, "test and treat," and Medicaid reimbursement floor died
in committees this session. While we are grateful that we did receive
hearings on all of our priority bills, we are extremely disappointed
that they were not voted out of committee.
Thank you to the many TPA members who
called, wrote, and visited with their elected officials and their staff
in recent months to advocate for the pharmacy profession!
