What Is SPARx?

SPARx is a two-module program developed by TPA that emphasizes the importance of uniting our profession. It is designed to educate and engage students in advocating and building positive relationships with:

  • The community
  • Health care professionals
  • Legislative officials
  • Regulatory officials

Why Advocacy?

Advocacy is key to ensuring that the profession of pharmacy thrives and as pharmacists you are fully able to practice at the top of your education and training.

Why Is There a Need?

  • The changing role of the pharmacist
  • Lack of recognition of value by payers, other health providers, and the public
  • To unify the profession
  • To protect patients

Why Relations?

Everything we do is about the relationships we build with others: our patients, each other in different specialties and practice settings, and other healthcare providers. Whether it be public relations, government relations, collaborating with other healthcare professionals or networking at a conference, these relationships directly affect our practice.

How Does It Work?

Each module has three requirements:

  1. Attend a workshop led by student leaders.
  2. Complete an assignment that will reinforce principles learned from the workshop.
  3. Provide a brief reflection of the assignment and what you learned from the module.

How to Participate

Students may obtain more information from their pharmacy school's TPA Student Directors.

Certificate and Awards

Students who complete both modules of the SPARx Program will be eligible to receive the TPA SPARx Certificate which will be a testament of their dedication to the profession of pharmacy. In addition, as students complete each individual part of the SPARx Program, they will help their school earn points toward the coveted TPA-ASP Cup!
